Planning a 2027 Gold Coast holiday and want a simple guide to what’s on? This is the year’s calendar built for people staying near the beach, with dates, suburbs and how easy each event is from Boulevard Towers in Broadbeach. Many of the highlights are a short walk or tram ride from our front door, so you can head out, enjoy the atmosphere and be back near the sand for dinner.
What are the biggest Gold Coast events in 2027?
Here is a quick scan of the year, all within about 30 to 40 minutes of Broadbeach. Where an event’s 2027 dates were still to be confirmed at the time of writing, we have noted the month it usually runs, so check the organiser closer to your stay.
- January: Australia Day celebrations at HOTA Parklands, Tuesday 26 January 2027, plus the Magic Millions racing and sales carnival across January.
- February: Laneway Festival and the AACTA Festival and Awards, both usually early February. Gold Coast Open surfing at Burleigh, typically late February.
- April to May: Gold Coast Film Festival, usually late April into May, with sessions at HOTA and partner venues.
- May: Blues on Broadbeach, 13 to 16 May 2027, in the Broadbeach precinct.
- June: Cooly Rocks On, 9 to 13 June 2027, at Coolangatta.
- July: ASICS Gold Coast Marathon at Southport, usually the first weekend of July.
- August: Pacific Airshow Gold Coast over the Surfers Paradise beachfront, usually mid-August.
- September: SWELL Sculpture Festival along Currumbin Beach, usually mid-September.
- Spring: the Gold Coast 500 supercars at Surfers Paradise, usually late in the year.
Which 2027 events are easiest from Broadbeach?
The easiest by a distance is Blues on Broadbeach from 13 to 16 May 2027, because it happens in our own suburb. The festival spreads free and ticketed sets across the Broadbeach precinct, a few minutes’ walk from Boulevard Towers, so you can drop in between beach sessions and be home in time to rest your feet. Wear comfortable shoes, you will be walking between stages, and pack a light layer for after sunset.
Just as close are the year-round options at GCCEC and The Star Gold Coast, both about a ten minute walk from us. Check what is on at each, then plan dinner nearby and walk home rather than wrestle with event parking. Pacific Fair, a five minute walk, runs pop-ups and entertainment through the school holidays that make a handy add-on for a slower day, and it is quieter earlier in the day.
The point of staying in Broadbeach is that the busiest weekend of the local calendar is on foot from your apartment, and the beach is there to recover on the morning after.
What are the big festival and sport weekends in 2027?
Cooly Rocks On is the next unmissable one, running 9 to 13 June 2027 at Coolangatta, about a 25 minute drive south. It is a free celebration of 1950s and 60s music, hot rods and beachfront activations, and it draws a big, good-natured crowd, so go early for parking. The Gold Coast Film Festival across late April and May is the calmer, cultural pick, with screenings and panels at HOTA and partner venues, and a weekday session is often the easiest to get into.
For spectacle, the Pacific Airshow returns over the Surfers Paradise beachfront in August, with aerial displays above the sand and ticketed premium viewing zones, so book early and pack ear protection for younger kids. September brings the SWELL Sculpture Festival to Currumbin Beach, an open-air gallery along the sand suited to a slow daytime outing, about a 20 minute drive south. And the Gold Coast 500 supercars take over the Surfers Paradise streets later in the year, which means busy roads and an early start if you are heading up for it.
Which 2027 events need tickets, and which are free?
Plenty of the best ones are free. Watching the surfing at Burleigh Hill during the Gold Coast Open costs nothing, Cooly Rocks On is a free festival, Blues on Broadbeach has free stages alongside its ticketed sessions, and Australia Day at HOTA Parklands is free to attend. Beachfront and park markets are free to wander, and you decide what you spend once you are there.
The ones to budget and book ahead for are the ticketed music festivals like Laneway, the premium viewing zones at the Pacific Airshow, and the Gold Coast 500. For those, buy early, plan your transport, and treat the walk-or-tram option from Broadbeach as your way around event-day parking. A free-event day paired with a swim and a café lunch is often the most relaxed way to enjoy the Gold Coast calendar anyway.
